2018 Glen Helen 250cc National MX Results: Two races into the 2018 Lucas Oil/AMA Pro Motocross Championships and already both the Eastern and Western Regional Supercross Series Champions from this year have won their first National. Today, at Glen Helen, Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger put in a perfect day, going 1-1 for the overall on a cool and overcast day, setting the stage to challenge defending champion Zach Osborne (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) for the title.
In the first moto, Osborne technically got the holeshot, but Plessinger took the lead right away and began putting distance on the field. Osborne took second over on lap two, but he couldn’t do much with Plessinger.

Plessinger, who qualified ninth in the morning qualifying sessions, raced away to the moto-one win with 12 seconds to spare over defending champ Osborne, TLD/Red Bull KTM’s Alex Martin, top qualifier (and Plessinger’s teammate) Justin Cooper, and then GEICO Honda’s Jeremy Martin, who spent the entire moto behind Cooper as they worked forward.
Coming in a ways behind the top five came the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki duo of Joey Savatgy and rookie Garrett Marchbanks.

In moto two, Plessinger didn’t have it so easy. Instead of starting up front, he found himself at the tail end of the top five and behind some stout company, including leader Alex Martin, Savatgy’s teammate Austin Forkner, Jeremy Martin and Savatgy. Luckily, Osborne was behind Plessinger, but he didn’t waste any time moving through the field. He was second by the end of lap three, and then found his way by Alex Martin only a lap later to take the lead. Then, around the halfway point, Jeremy Martin caught fire, began to pressure his brother Alex, and then took over the second spot with four laps left to run.
Although Jeremy Martin trailed Plessinger by about 7 seconds, in the last two laps, as Plessinger put it on cruise control, Jeremy Martin put in a charge, and he put in his fastest laptime of either moto on the final lap, but came up just over a second short of Plessinger at the finish.
Alex Martin ended up third, all alone, in front of Savatgy, Osborne, Forkner and Cooper.

Plessinger took the win with a 1-1 over the 3-3 of Alex Martin, the 5-2 of Jeremy Martin, the 2-5 of Osborne, and the 6-4 of Savatgy.
Most significantly, Osborne is now joined atop the championship leaderboard by Plessinger as they both head to Colorado this weekend 88 points and red plates on their motorcycles. Two-time champ Jeremy Martin sits just 6 points behind the two in third.
