Bell Powersports 2018 Star and RS-2 Helmets
Cycle News Staff | October 12, 2017
The 2018 Star and RS-2 from Bell Powersports will now be equipped with MIPS technology.
MIPS stands for multi-directional impact-protection system, which is designed to reduce rotational forces that can result from certain types of impacts. The updated Bell Star has an suggested price of $499 and will come in many new colorways.
“It’s not everyday that you can take a best-in-class, performance-driven helmet and make it even better, and we’ve managed to do just that with the addition of MIPS to the Star platform,” said Chris Sackett, Bell Helmets Vice President.
The RS-2 ($299) is the second-generation RS-1. The updated RS-2 features a lightweight fiberglass shell and meets or exceeds DOT/ECE standards. It has an internal sun shield and aerodynamics are optimized. It is also communication and eyewear compatible.
“Similarly, the RS-1 had been arguably the highest value proposition on the market at its price point,” added Sackett. “And we’ve raised the bar for that helmet with RS-2, and done so at a price point that’s $100 lower than its predecessor.”
