2017 RedBud 250 MX Results: As the 2017 Lucas Oil/AMA 250cc Pro Motocross Championships reach the halfway point, it seems that points leader Zach Osborne is just hitting his stride. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider put in yet another strong day to win the RedBud MX National and extend his 250cc National Championship points lead.
Osborne was the fastest qualifier, but in moto one it was GEICO Honda’s Jeremy Martin (“JMart”) with the holeshot over Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Austin Forkner, and then Osborne, TLD/Red Bull KTM’s Alex Martin (“AMart”), JMart’s teammate RJ Hampshire, and then a trio of Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha riders in Dylan Ferrandis, last week’s winner Aaron Plessinger, and Mitchell Harrison. Behind them came AMart’s teammate Shane McElrath and then another Star rider in Colt Nichols.

Osborne went by Forkner for second only a few turns into the race, and AMart followed suit. Early in the moto, JMart began putting time on the rest of the field, but about halfway, Osborne began reeling him back in. With three laps left to go, Osborne was all over JMart, but then just as the two took the two-to-go board, Osborne got caught behind some lappers, and it was all JMart needed to secure his third moto win of the season. Osborne hung on for second with room to spare over AMart.
Forkner hung on for a distant fourth, barely holding off the Yamaha teammates of Ferrandis in fifth and Plessinger in sixth, and then came their teammate Harrison in seventh over Forkner’s teammate Adam Cianciarulo, McElrath, Nichols, and Forkner’s other teammate Joey Savatgy.
In moto two, JMart grabbed the holeshot yet again, but then the unthinkable happened when he lost the front and went down in the second turn, taking Forkner down with him in the process. JMart was up second-to-last, while Forkner got up dead-last. This happened to JMart in moto two at Glen Helen as well, where he grabbed the holeshot and fell later on lap one.

AMart assumed the lead over Harrison and CycleTrader/Rock River Yamaha’s Luke Renzland. Then came Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Justin Hill, Ferrandis, GEICO Honda’s Chase Sexton, Savatgy, and then Osborne, after he passed McElrath at the end of lap one for eighth.
While AMart led Harrison and Renzland, Osborne was going to work, passing his way to fifth by the third lap. It took Osborne a while to catch and then pass Hill, but once he did, he quickly caught and passed Renzland and then set out after Harrison, and then AMart gave him and Harrison a gift, falling over in the turn before the famous sand whoops, handing Harrison the lead. Osborne, with blood in the water, went after AMart immediately and pushed his way by only two turns after the fall, and then with three laps to go, Osborne shoves his way past Harrison after the sand whoops to take the lead.
And that was it. Osborne took the moto and overall win over Harrison, who just held off AMart at the finish to score his best-ever outdoor national moto (2nd) and overall (4th) finish. Behind AMart came Ferrandis, then Hill, Renzland, Sexton and then JMart in 8th.
