Corona, CA (October 31, 2016) – The win also marked a big milestone in Russell’s career as the win pushed him to 40 career XC1 victories since moving to the class in 2011. TLD’s Russell Bobbitt was able to secure fifth in the XC1 class, while women’s rider Kacy Martinez finished second in the WXC class where she ended the season second overall.
After wrapping up the championship at the previous round earlier this month, it wasn’t necessary for Russell to win, but that was exactly what he did. He got to the front early and battled for the lead until he was able to create a gap during a technical hill climb section. With the win not necessary in the battle for the championship, he was free to take some chances and go for the win. A momentous 40th-career win was at stake and he was able to achieve it.
“Even though the ending went my way, it wasn’t easy,” said Russell. “I had issues with my setup and then certain line choices almost made me call it a day before the end of the race. But to come away with my 40th career win is an unbelievable feeling.”
Fresh off his National Enduro Championship, TLD rider Bobbitt finished the final GNCC in the top five. He was inside the top 5 at the start, but an issue halfway though forced him to race through the pack to make up ground where he was able to finish fifth.
Martinez ended up being just a few points shy of the championship in the WXC class but went out with a solid run at the final round where she finished second in her class and fifth overall in the morning race.
