Russell, Bollinger Wrap Up GNCC Titles
Cycle News Staff | October 3, 2016
It was business as usual at the Powerline Park GNCC, round 12 of the AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series, where FMF/KTM rider Kailub Russell claimed the overall win – his fourth in a row. Although there is still one round remaining on the calendar, Russell already claimed the title – also par for the course for the dominant rider.
Russell was a dominant force once again this season, and would have wrapped up the championship even earlier had it not been for a DNF on the final lap of round eight. Josh Strang also clinched the number two plate for the season, the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory racer one of the only riders who managed to wrestle wins away from Russell this year.
There were two GNCC titles handed out as the XC2 Pro Lites championship was also decided at Powerline Park in St. Clairsville, Ohio. Trevor Bollinger rode to a conservative (for him) second-place finish behind Husqvarna-mounted Layne Michael to stitch up the championship. It marked the first national title for both Bollinger and the JCR Honda team.
The series resumes on October 30 in Crawfordsville, Indiana where the final round – the AMSOIL Ironman – will take place.
