Biaggi Puzzled By Ducati’s Top End Performance

Aprilia test rider and occasional wild card WSB rider Max Biaggi got the chance to see how his Aprilia machine stacked up to the others again at Sepang, in real world situations.

He could not help but notice that the Ducati has made improvements in performance of late. “If you watch the top speed of me and Chaz Davies the difference is only one kilometre per hour,” said a puzzled Max. “How is it possible that a four-cylinder and two-cylinder go at the same speed?”

Biaggi believes he knows the reasons why the gap has closed so much. “If you are an engineer you know that is impossible so you know that the limitation you give to the four-cylinder is too much compared to what they give plus to the twins. In the chassis, nothing you can do and the rules this year are like this.”

Biaggi, never one to hide his opinion, also thinks that Kawasaki has taken a jump on the other four cylinder factories under the more restrictive 2015 rules. “I have to say ‘good job’ to Kawasaki because even though they are working around this they made it work. Their four-cylinder is the same as us, although we have a vee, but with an inline four they are making a very good job, if you see. It is not only the regulation, they make a better job.””
