Fall is supposed to be a beautiful time of year in Michigan and a great time to be racing motocross, but not this weekend in 1977.

RedBud Track ‘N’ Trail in Buchanan hosted the fourth round of the Trans-AMA Motocross Championship, and the racers and fans were instead dealt with snow, rain, sleet and hail that came down during the motos. It was a miserable day, especially for series leader Roger DeCoster (pictured), who was hampered by bad starts and muddied goggles in the first moto and a get-off in the second moto. The Belgian finished a very un-DeCoster-like seventh overall (7-8); however, he went on to win the 1977 Trans-AMA Championship.
The winner that day was “The Hurricane” Bob Hannah, who won both motos ahead of Jim Pomeroy.
