World Superbike: Chaz Davies Sweeps Laguna

Davies unbeatable at Laguna Seca  earns Ducatis first double win in World Superbike since 2012.

MONTEREY, CA, JULY 19—Aruba.it Racing Ducati’s Chaz Davies overcame the worrying drops of rain on his visor in the first few laps to once again run away with the race win at Laguna Seca, making it a double for the day.

Behind, another battle for second between Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes went the way of Sykes for the second time in a few hours.

Although Davies’ teammate Davide Giugliano crashed out early, it was a day for internal scrapping as Aprilia Racing Team Red Devils’ Leon Haslam  and Jordi Torres had their own duel, with Torres eventually fourth and Haslam fifth.

BMW Motorrad Italia’s Ayrton Badovini was a lonely and distant sixth, after some early dramas had claimed S Pata Honda’s Sylvain Guintoli through a crash and Voltcom Crescent Suzuki’s Alex Lowes who eventually retired in the pits.

Guintoli’s teammate Michael van der Mark eventually placed seventh, privateer rider Niccolo Canepa on the Althea Racing Ducati eighth and another Panigale rider Leandro Mercado on the Barni Racing Team Ducati was ninth.

For the second time in a day MV Agusta Reparto Corse’s Leon Camier finished tenth.

In the points Rea has now broken the 400 barrier with 407, Sykes is second on 282 and Davies is now third on 263, overtaking Haslam who is now fourth on 240.
