Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo kept his win streak alive, taking his third-straight MotoGP win of the season at Mugello. Lorenzo won in Lorenzo fashion—taking the lead early and checking out, even lapping the competition at times by over a second. His win at the Italian Grand Prix also helped his championship bid, closing his gap on his teammate, championship leader, Valentino Rossi to within six points.

While Lorenzo checked out, the battle for second waged on between Ducati’s Andrea Iannone and fellow Italian Rossi. Iannone held off the multi-time World Champion in spite of his still ailing shoulder.

Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa was fourth ahead of the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 teammates—Bradley Smith and Pol Espargaro. In seventh was Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Maverick Vinales. And then it was more Ducatis: factory test rider Michele Pirro in eighth and Pramac Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci and Yonny Hernandez rounding out the top 10.

Marc Marquez made an impressive start from 13th to battle for a podium position, but ultimately crashed out of the race.
