JD Beach scored his second MotoAmerica Supersport victory of the season Sunday at VIR and with it the Kentuckian takes over the series lead from Garrett Gerloff. Beach was comfortably out front at the flag with a 2.777-second margin over Gerloff. Josh Herrin made a last-lap move on David Anthony to take third and make it a Yamaha sweep.

“It was a great race,” Beach said. “I had to get a good start and do the race I knew I could do. I knew Josh and Garrett were going to be tough. It was definitely the bike today. All I had to do was sit on it and twist the throttle.”

Beach led from the start from Herrin and Anthony.  Bobby Fong crashed out of fifth on lap three.

By lap five it was looking like a replay of yesterday with Herrin staying planted on Beach’s rear wheel.  Gerloff was holding off Anthony in the battle for third, then a big gap back to fifth-place Tomas Puerta.

Mid-race and it was Gerloff shaking off the pain of a broken finger to move up to move past Herrin for second. Herrin seemed to be falling off to the point that Anthony was now threatening to get by him. And on lap 13 Anthony did indeed make the move into turn one to take over third.

Beach cruised home unchallenged. Gerloff’s brave ride kept him within a single point of the championship lead.
