Jake Gagne and the Red Bull Road Race Factory team had high hopes of going to the British Supersport Series and showing what they were capable of. Unfortunately, at least for Gagne, it didn’t work out as planned.

The newly crowned Daytona SportBike Champion re-injured his shoulder during a practice session crash at Silverstone on October 4 that kept him out of that race and will also keep him from participating in the October 18-19 round at Brands Hatch. That means Tomas Puerta will go it alone for the U.S.-based team run by Danny Walker.

“After initial consultation from medical staff onsite at Silverstone and a follow up from local medial professionals near our temporary base of operations, it has been decided that Jake should be sent home for immediate medical attention,” a release from the team states. “He has already been flown home to California and has been received by his home physician.”

“It was great to be at the track and in the series,” Gagne said at Silverstone. “The people we met were all really great and friendly. I was pretty pumped to be racing over here and to see how we stacked up against the best in the British Supersport series. The track was awesome and I liked the layout a lot. Everything was going great up until I had the little mistake. I knew my shoulder was sore from the last race in the U.S., but then when I took the hit I knew that was it.”

Puerta finished 20th in his British Supersport debut at Silverstone.
