Kailub Russell got the “second half” of the 2014 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series off to another winning start, with the FMF KTM Team rider claiming his seventh win of the season at the Unadilla Valley Sports Center in New Berlin, New York, September 7.

After watching Paul Whibley grab the holeshot, Russell quickly went to work and soon had the lead before the first lap was over. From there, the points leader pulled away and took the win 27 seconds clear of Honda rider Thad DuVall.

DuVall, riding a CRF450R rather than his usual CRF250R, steadily worked his way up through the pack after getting off to a 10th-place start.

Finishing third another 27 seconds back was Yamaha rider Josh Strang, with XC2 Pro Lites winner Grant Baylor (KTM) finishing fourth.

Honda rider Chris Bach rounded out the top five overall.

Andrew DeLong (Husqvarna), Whibley, Takeshi Koikeda (Honda), Jordan Ashburn (Yamaha) and XC2 Pro Lites runner-up Trevor Bollinger completed the top 10 overall.

Russell now enjoys a commanding lead in the championship and could clinch the championship at the next round.

For Baylor, his third straight win means that he now has a 29-point lead over Ricky Russell in the XC2 Pro Lites Championship.
