Mike Alessi got off to a winning start to his adventures north of the boarder by taking the overall win in the MX1 class at round 1 of the Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals held at the Wastelands in Nanaimo, Canada, which is on picturesque Vancouver Island. The Smartops/MotoConcepts Suzuki rider finished third in the opening moto behind Canadian Honda star Colton Facciotti and American Teddy Maier. Maier’s Thor Kawasaki teammate Josh Hill was fourth.

Alessi roared back, however, to take the win in moto two, beating Hill, Facciotti and Rob Kiniry, who is riding a OTFSS Yamaha. The 3-1 moto finishes gave Alessi the overall win ahead of Facciotti (1-3), Hill (4-2), Maier (2-6) and Kiniry (7-4).

Alessi and Facciotti are tied for the series points lead with 45 points each heading into round two of the series in  Kamloops, BC on June 8.
