Husqvarnas Jacob Argubright won the West Hare Scrambles Series opener in Arizona.

Jacob Argubright gave Husqvarna a win at the 2014 West Hare Scrambles Series opener in Arizona.

Factory Husqvarna’s Jacob Argubright kicked off the 2014 West Hare Scrambles season with a big win at the opening round at Arizona Cycle Park in Buckeye, Arizona. Argubright overcame a lackluster start to work his way through the pack and into second behind defending champion Gary Sutherlin. The early laps saw Sutherlin controlling the charge with Argubright closing the gap, but Gary’s day took a turn for the worse when his bike started steaming. Sutherlin pushed hard to maintain his lead, but succumbed to a mechanical issue on lap three giving way for Argubright to take over.

Argubright never looked back on his way to the checkered flag, with Arizona-native Steven Godman firmly in second. Purvines Beta’s Justin Morrow worked his way into third overall to complete the podium ahead of Morgan Crawford, who took a commanding win in the Vet class.

Mitch Anderson collected the A-class win, while Cooper Abbott – son of legendary off-road racer Destry Abbott – celebrated the overall win in the B class.

“I was pretty nervous for my first race,” Argubright confessed. “The first coupe laps didn’t go as I planned and then I finally loosened up. The course was great and I lapped all the way up to fifth place. It was a great start to my season and I’m looking forward to keeping the Husky on top!”
