Carmichael Fast at Muddy Unadilla

Ricky Carmichael topped a rain-shortened practice session today at round six of the 2006 Toyota AMA Motocross Championship being held at the Unadilla Valley Sports Center, near New Berlin, New York. A steady all-day rain, which at times became torrential, turned the rough Unadilla course into a quagmire, causing many riders to sit out the second timed practice session.

Carmichael headed all riders with a fastest time of 2:18.249 on his Makita Suzuki, while series nemesis James Stewart posted the next fastest time, a 2:20.395, on his factory Kawasaki. Team Yamaha’s Chad Reed followed with a time of 2:22.825, while MDK/Motosport/Honda’s Nick Wey rounded out the top four with a time of 2:25.333.

Team Kawasaki’s Michael Byrne returned to action after spending the last two months recovering from an injured thumb and logged the fifth-fastest time of 2:25.621.

The top Lites-class rider was Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, who posted the sixth-best overall time with a 2:25.634.
