James Stewart Runs Away With Vancouver Win

Team Kawasaki James Stewart ran away and easily captured the win at the Vancouver Supercross, round two of the Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP. Stewart grabbed the holeshot in the 20-lap main event, while his main rivals, Ricky Carmichael and Chad Reed, got swallowed up in the first turn and came out of it around midpack. By the time Carmichael and Reed got into second and third, respectively, Stewart was already long gone, enjoying about a nine-second lead by the end of the second lap. By the midway point, Stewart had opened up about a 12-second lead over Carmichael, and it pretty much stayed that way for the rest of the race.

Carmichael did make up some ground late in the race, but Stewart had control of the race, slowing considerably on the last lap to take the checkered flag about seven seconds ahead of Carmichael, who managed to pull away from Reed steadily through out the race.

Way back in fourth finished Team Suzuki Makita’s Ivan Tedesco, the last rider who was not lapped by Stewart.

Rounding out the top five overall was Kawasaki’s Michael Byrne who finished well behind Tedesco. David Vuillemin, on the BooKoo/Holigan Racing Honda CR250R, got off to a third-place start but ended up sixth, ahead Jason Thomas, Nick Wey, Heath Voss and Jeff Gibson.

In the Lites class, Red Bull KTM’s Nathan Ramsey grabbed the holeshot and ran off with the win. Ramsey felt some pressure by Billy Laninovich, on the Samsung/SoBe Honda, but eventually broke free of him and opened up a small cushion.

Meanwhile, last week’s Lites winner Davi Millsaps, who was nearly last off the line, worked his way up through the pack and got into third just past the halfway point. He then reeled in Laninovich and passed him four laps from the end. By that point, Ramsey had built up a safe cushion, and that was as far as Millsaps could get. Ramsey took the checkered flag about three seconds ahead of the Honda rider. Laninovich held on to finish third, well ahead of WBR Suzuki rider Ryan Sipes. Fourth went to Kawasaki rider Darcy Lange, while fifth went to Honda’s Andrew Short. Red Bull KTM rider Josh Hansen finished seventh, followed by Ryan Morais, Jake Weimer and Michael LaPaglia.
