There’s One New Winner

| July 4, 2004

Round five of the AMA Chevrolet Motocross Championship series finished up today in Buchanan, Michigan. It was business as usual in the 250 class, with the same guys finishing in the top three positions. While the top three of the 125 class got mixed up a little with a few new faces up on the podium.

The first 250 moto saw Ricky Carmichael jump out to the early lead, soon after Yamaha’s Chad Reed fell in behind him just in front of Sebastian Tortelli in third. Meanwhile, after a bad start, Kevin Windham was busy working his way up towards the front. By the halfway-point Windham had moved around Tortelli while Carmichael was out to a substantial lead with Reed in second. The end of the moto saw them finish in that same order, much like they have all season long.

The second moto start was almost a carbon copy of the first, with Carmichael grabbing the holeshot and quickly running away. Following behind him was Reed in second and Windham in third. On the third lap Reed bobbled in the huge sand whoops and Windham was able to sneak by. In the end it was Carmichael taking the win followed by Windham and Reed respectively. The overall saw Carmichael in first with Windham nabbing second away from Reed who finished in third.

The 125 class was the story of the day. In the first moto James Stewart put on a display of domination as he ran away for the win ahead of Mike Brown and Ivan Tedesco. In the second moto Stewart was caught up in a first turn crash. After which he quickly jumped up and began chipping away at the field. Then on the second lap he fell over twice in one turn, effectively knocking him back to last place again. In the end Stewart pulled off due to bike problems leaving Brown to take the win. Brown was followed across the line by Josh Grant and Broc Hepler. The overall saw Brown take the win with Davie Millsaps in second, after a consistent 4-4 day, and Grant in third.
