Friday at Mammoth

| June 25, 2004

The first big day of the weekend finished up at the Mammoth Mountain Motocross with three races taking place: Open, Schoolboy and Women. The big race of the day was the Open Pro race which saw Jeremy McGrath sweep both motos in convincing fashion. In the second moto, McGrath turned in a lap time that was just two seconds off of the all-time track record, and that was when the track was the roughest it was all day.

In the first moto, Timmy Weigand got the holeshot and gave McGrath a race for the first few laps before McGrath was able to pull away and take the win ahead of Weigand and Rusty Hollad.

In the second moto, Holland grabbed the holeshot ahead of McGrath and the rest of the pack, but it didn’t take too long before McGrath was in the lead and pulling away. Holland went on to finish second with Weigand in third.

Like the Open Pro class, the Schoolboy class had some close racing as well. Eric McCrummen took the win followed by Michael LaPaglia and Josh Lichtle. In the Women’s Pro class Jessica Patterson took the win. In the second moto Patterson got a decent start and was able to move into the lead and run away from the field. Tomorrow the 125cc class riders get to try their hands at the Mammoth Mountain circuit and McGrath will no doubt be there to try to take the win in the 125cc Pro class.
