Summers Injured

Nine-time AMA National Champion Scott Summers was involved in a post-race crash following the second round of the Grand National Cross Country Series in Macon, Georgia, on Sunday, March 11.

In preparation for round three of the GNCC Series, Summers was suspension testing following Sunday’s event. During the test, Summers crashed and was taken to Mid-Georgia Medical Center in Macon, Georgia, where he was diagnosed with a broken femur. Summers underwent surgery yesterday at 2:00 p.m. to have a rod inserted in the injured leg.

An up-beat and positive Summers said from his hospital bed, “This is obviously a temporary setback. As soon as I am able, I will begin intensive therapy on my leg with world-renowned sports trainer, Dr. Jeff Spencer. I had been working with Dr. Spencer for the past few months and was very encouraged by the strides we had made in that short time.”

Summers, who has struggled through the past season with the lingering effects from another femur break and subsequent surgeries, may be released from the Mid-Georgia Medical Center as early as Friday, March 16, according to an OMS press release.
