Monza Two-Day Trials

| February 19, 2001

International trials riders warmed up this weekend for the approaching World Championship Trials Series, by contesting the 19th edition of the Due Giorni della Brianza (Two Days of Brianza), held in cold conditions near the famous Monza road race circuit in northern Italy.

A tight time schedule was implemented, so cold that many riders were unable to complete the entire course on time, and were thus disqualified. More fortunate was Spaniard Amos Bilbao (right), who balanced his Montesa to the overall win via strong, quick-paced riding. Placing second was home rider Fabio Lenzi on a Gas Gas, followed by Beta-mounted Valerio Bauce and Sherco pilot Andrea Petrella. Among the top riders to be eliminated for being too slow were Marcel Justribo, Kenichi Kuroyama and Taichi Tanaka. Look for a report in Issue #9 of Cycle News’ print edition.
