Paris-Dakar Gets Started

The Total Paris-Dakar 2001 Rally got underway today in Paris, France, with the competition taking place on a 3.72-mile course.

BMW’s Juan Roma and KTM’s Giovanni Sala began their battle today, with both riders completing the course in the same time. Third place went to KTM’s Alfie Cox with Richard Sainct fourth.

Americans Johnny Campbell (Honda) and Jimmy Lewis (BMW) ended the day fifth and sixth, respectively.
