SX Action This Weekend

| December 29, 2000

For those of you Southern California MX fans who just can’t wait until next week for the first round of the AMA/EA Sports Supercross Series at Edison International Field in Anaheim, California, this weekend will offer several opportunities to check out top riders in action.

You can get things started off tomorrow in a frestyle way, as Metal Mulisha riders Ronnie Faisst, Larry Linkogle, “Twitch” Stenberg and Colin Morrison are scheduled to put on a show at Lake Elsinore Motocross Park. Apparently, the Mulisha boys have made a New Year’s resolution for less hell-raising and more virtuousness, as this show will be to benefit a hemophiliac child who is being adopted by a local family. The show is from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information on the event, call 909/515-4518.

On the same day, Chaparral is hosting its annual Supercross “preview” at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. Held on the facility’s Supercross track, the event (officially called the U.S. Pro/Am Championship) has become the traditional first opportunity to see many of the top riders – decked out in their new gear and on their new bikes – on the track together. It is also unique in that it features a 125/250cc Shootout in which tiddler riders start ahead of the quarter-liter machines, and both do battle together. Call 909/880-3090 for more information.

Perris Raceway was the originator of the New Year’s “preview” Supercross, and the track will be hosting a big race again on New Year’s Day. The event is sponsored by Temecula Motorsports, and organizers are advertising the appearance of “the fastest amateurs in the nation.” Gates open at 6:00 a.m., and racing starts at 9:00 a.m.Call 909/657-7441 for more information.
