Bercy SX Finale

| October 29, 2000

David Vuillemin entered today into the Paris-Bercy history book, becoming the first rider to win every race he started over the three nights of this XVIII Bercy Supercross. Once again, the stadium was full over the three days, and more than 40,000 spectators were there to cheer the riders.

Winner of the first two nights, David Vuillemin was once more unbeatable today despite the best efforts of fellow Frenchman Sébastien Tortelli. After taking the holeshot in the first final of the night, Tortelli led most of the race, but finally Vuillemin passed him and won this race. The Team Yamaha rider got the holeshot in the second final, and led the race from the first to the last lap, followed by Team Honda’s Tortelli.

Having injured his thumb in one of his night-two crashes, Jeremy McGrath retired after taking second place in his qualifying heat behind Tortelli. With McGrath out, Australian Chad Reed was the strongest non-French rider of the day, finishing the day on the podium. But for the final classification (King of Bercy), the podium was totally French.

In the 125cc class, Frenchman Rodrig Thain won this last day, but the revelation of the day was the young (16 years old) Aussie Bertt Metcalfe, winner of one final. But for the final classification of the event (Prince of Bercy), Justin Buckelew was the strongest, remaining consistant and riding strongl throughout the event.
