MXGP Doubles up in China as Ziyang Joins the 2027 Calendar

(September 17, 2027) — The FIM and Infront Moto Racing are proud to announce that the FIM Motocross World Championship will visit China twice in 2027. Ziyang, in Sichuan province, between Chengdu and Chongqing, the heart of China’s “Moto Valley,” will host the brand-new MXGP of Ziyang in September 2027, alongside the established round in Shanghai. The second Chinese Grand Prix will take place on September 11 and 12.

This is a new milestone for the championship in China. For the first time in the history of MXGP, the country will host two Grands Prix in the same season. It also confirms the steady growth of motocross in China, one of the fastest developing motorcycle markets in the world.

The timing is significant. 2027 will also see two Chinese manufacturers enter the FIM Motocross World Championship: ZXMoto and Kove. Chinese brands will now be part of the MXGP paddock, while Chinese fans get two chances to watch the world’s best riders at home.

The new round in Ziyang also follows Infront Moto Racing’s long-term strategy of going to Asia early and building the championship’s presence in a region with outstanding growth. The round 18 will take place in Ziyang in the region of Sichuan on September 12.

Provisional 2027 FIM Motocross World Championship Calendar Announced

(September 10, 2027) — The FIM and Infront Moto Racing are pleased to announce the provisional calendar for the 2027 FIM Motocross World Championship. Twenty Grands Prix spread across four continents will decide the MXGP and MX2 World titles, with the season opening in Andalucia on February 28 and the year closing at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations at Assen on October 10.

In the beautiful region of Andalucia, Almonte will open proceedings with the MXGP of Andalucia, the Spanish venue that joined the calendar in 2026 and now takes on the role of season opener for both main classes along with WMX on the program. Two weeks later, the paddock crosses the Atlantic for the MXGP of Argentina on March 14, as the much-appreciated venue of Bariloche welcomes MXGP for a second consecutive year.

The Paddock then comes back to Europe for a strong spring period. The MXGP of Italy on March 28 at Montevarchi is directly followed by the MXGP of Sardegna at Riola Sardo on April 4. Then the MXGP of Spain on April 18, where the location is also to be announced, and the MXGP of Trentino at Pietramurata on April 25.

May opens away from Europe. The MXGP of China returns to Shanghai on May 2, moving from its September date into a spring slot that places one of the fastest growing markets in World Motocross at the heart of the season. The Grand Prix also falls within the Labor Day holiday, one of the biggest public holidays in the Chinese calendar and a period of national celebration that brings the country together. To race in Shanghai across that weekend is a great honor for the championship and promises an exceptional atmosphere at the circuit.

The European core of the calendar then runs from late May to the end of June, with the MXGP of Portugal on May 23 at a venue to be announced, the MXGP of France on May 30, the MXGP of Latvia at Kegums on June 13, the MXGP of Germany at Teutschenthal on June 20 and the MXGP of Great Britain at Foxhills on June 27. France returns to Saint Jean d’Angely, the Charente-Maritime venue that last staged a Grand Prix in 2025.

A pause in July gives teams and riders a genuine midseason reset, and it is during that period that the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship takes place at Parnu in Estonia on July 18. Racing resumes with two of the most demanding weekends of the year, the MXGP of Czech Republic at Loket on July 25 and the MXGP of Flanders at Lommel on August 1.

The run to the finish opens with the MXGP of Sweden at Uddevalla on August 15 and the MXGP of the Netherlands at Arnhem on August 22, before the MXGP of Turkiye at Afyonkarahisar on September 5. A further Grand Prix is scheduled for September 12, with the host country and venue to be announced [the September 12 race will be at MXGP of Ziyang in China, announced on September 17], and the MXGP of Australia at Darwin follows on September 19. The championship then closes back in Europe, the MXGP of Switzerland on October 3, at a venue to be confirmed, bringing down the curtain on the season one week before the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in The Netherlands at Assen.

The Supporting Championships

The FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship will consist of six rounds in 2027. WMX opens alongside the MXGP of Andalucia on February 28 and then races at the MXGP of Italy, the MXGP of Germany at Teutschenthal, the MXGP of the Netherlands at Arnhem, the MXGP of Turkiye at Afyonkarahisar and the MXGP of Australia at Darwin, where the title will be settled.

The season is completed by the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations at Assen on October 10. The Dutch venue last staged the event in 2019, when the Netherlands won on home soil in front of a capacity crowd, and its return is one of the most anticipated dates of the 2027 season. The FIM bLU cRU program will again feature on the Nations weekend.
