Ricky Carmichael Won the National That Day Over Kevin Windham and Chad Reed

In this week’s Throwback we dial back the clock 21 years to the 2005 Thunder Valley MX National in Lakewood, Colorado. This shot captures the start of one of the 250 (now 450 class) motos and shows American Honda’s Ernesto Fonseca (24) with an outstanding run leading the way into the first turn. Tucked in just behind the great Costa Rican rider are Amsoil Chaparral Honda’s Kevin Windham (14) and American Suzuki’s Ricky Carmichael (4). Sean Collier (64) and Nick Wey (27) also got excellent starts to this moto. You can also just see Travis Preston (70) and Levi Reid (196) in the mix near the front of the 40-rider field.
It was another great day for RC. He raced to one of his trademark dominating victories with a (1-1). Windham went (2-2) and Reed (3-3) to round out the podium finishers. And the strong start wasn’t wasted for Fonseca either, as he finished the day with a solid (5-4) result for fourth overall.
The Pro Motocross Championship will be in Lakewood this weekend for round three of this year’s outdoor nationals.
