The Isle of Man TT Races has suspended the Sidecar class for the remainder of the 2026 event following an incident during qualifying earlier this week.

The decision comes after an incident involving a Sidecar team during the third qualifying session prompted race organizers to carry out what they described as an immediate technical and operational review into the circumstances surrounding the accident and the continued participation of the class at this year’s TT.

There will be no more sidecar races at this year’s Isle of Man TT.

Following the review, race officials and the event promoter elected to suspend all remaining Sidecar sessions and races for the rest of the meeting.

In a statement issued by organizers, the move was described as a precautionary measure taken in the interests of competitor and spectator safety. Officials also stated that the decision reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to reviewing event safety and operational procedures whenever a significant incident occurs.

All Sidecar competitors and teams entered in the event have reportedly been briefed by race officials regarding the outcome of the initial review and the next steps in the assessment process.

The Sidecar class has been a long-standing part of the Isle of Man TT, with the category holding deep historical significance within the event. Organizers acknowledged the commitment of the competitors, teams and supporters involved in the discipline, while also emphasizing that the decision had not been taken lightly.

Race officials reiterated that the safety of competitors, spectators, marshals, officials and all personnel involved with the event remains the priority.

No further details regarding the incident or any potential long-term implications for the Sidecar category have been released at this stage. Organizers stated that additional updates will be provided through official Isle of Man TT communication channels in due course.
