The Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid and Ninja 7 Hybrid motorcycles have received updates to the ECU, specifically to the drive mode selection and operation of the Sport Mode of the gearbox.

This is a press release from Kawasaki…
The Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid and Ninja 7 Hybrid motorcycles continue to stand alone as the only mass-produced strong hybrid motorcycles in the industry and will now receive two rider-focused updates aimed at further elevating the riding experience for new and current owners.

Following extensive development work on the onboard systems—particularly the Electronic Control Unit (ECU)—both models now benefit from refinements to drive mode selection and operation of the Sport Mode of the gearbox. These updates reflect ongoing engineering efforts paired with valuable input from customers, media, and dealers.

These innovative hybrid motorcycles bring a wide range of advanced technologies and operating systems to the motorcycle space, including the ability to switch between full EV mode and Hybrid mode while riding. This functionality is especially useful when navigating quiet neighborhoods or zero-emissions zones, allowing riders to transition seamlessly from full electric operation to combustion engine, and back again.

Previously, riders could manually switch between EV and Hybrid modes at speeds up to 16 mph. With the latest updates, that threshold has been increased up to 37 mph, significantly improving real-world usability and flexibility in urban environments.Sport Mode functionality has also been expanded. While it was previously limited to manual transmission (MT) operation using handlebar-mounted shift paddles, riders can now access the automatic transmission (AT) setting as well within Sport Mode. This enhancement delivers a more aggressive riding character without requiring manual gear changes.

With a focus on efficiency and reduced emissions, the updated Ninja 7 Hybrid and Z7 Hybrid are available now at select Kawasaki dealerships and current owners can visit their local Kawasaki dealer to receive the update.
