As MotoGP preseason came to a close in Thailand, one Italian manufacturer had reason to be pleased above its rivals. And it wasn’t Ducati.
Aprilia showed sensational speed over the two-day running in stiflingly hot conditions. Not only did Marco Bezzecchi post the fastest time of 1m 28.668; he was followed by Trackhouse Aprilia’s Ai Ogura with Jorge Martin a strong eighth in his first on-track appearance of the year.
The factory’s fortunes took a further boost with the reported news Pecco Bagnaia is due to sign from Ducati for 2027. On this form, the Noale factory can challenge its compatriots for the title.

It wasn’t plain sailing for Ducati. Yes, Marc Marquez, Bagnaia and Alex Marquez were third, fourth and fifth fastest respectively. But Marc awoke on Saturday with stomach issues and then had three crashes over the two days. His brother ended Sunday early, too, thanks to a fast crash at Turn 9. Neither rider was injured.
There was no doubting the speed of the Bologna bikes, however. Bagnaia, in particular, looked fully dialed in with his Sprint simulation on Saturday catching the eye.
Pedro Acosta was the leading light for KTM. He confirmed a better front-end feeling, and felt his lack of crashes during preseason showed the RC16 is now easier to ride. That optimism wasn’t shared by Maverick Viñales or Brad Binder however. Both heavily hinted at frustrations at the factory’s testing plan.
Honda enjoyed a solid two days, with Joan Mir tenth but still complaining of a lack of rear grip. There was nothing but despair at Yamaha. Its new V4 was just 1s off over a flying lap, but was much slower over longer runs. “This year there will be no possibility of doing these kinds of laps,” said Fabio Quartararo when asked if he could repeat the five poles of 2025.
