Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Josep Garcia kicked off the enduro season in Europe by winning the Bassella Race in Bassella, Spain, on February 7-8. The race featured several stars of the sport, yet the reigning EnduroGP Champion was flawless in winning Saturday’s Xtreme Race and Sunday’s main Bassella Race.

“This year the Bassella Race wasn’t the first race of the season because we’d already competed in three SuperEnduro rounds, but it was the first enduro race,” Garcia said on Sunday. “I’m super happy.
“Today, in Sunday’s main race, the key was getting a good start, especially with the mud. I started first thanks to yesterday’s win, and from the opening lap, I focused on managing the race, particularly the fuel. I saw that something had happened to Antoine [Magain], and when I reached the refueling area, they told me I had a two-minute lead. That’s when we decided to refuel on every lap to be safe.
“So I’m really happy: a very technical race, a great training session, and I’m delighted with the bike, the team and everything. We’ve started the year very well, and now, the enduro season truly begins.”
Sherco’s Teodor Kabakchev and Beta’s Alfredo Gomez completed the Xtreme podium. Stark Varg’s Eddie Karlsson was fourth.
In Sunday’s Bassela race, Sherco’s Antoine Magain was second and Fantic’s Theophille Espinasse was third. CN
