Local Motocross Hero had Fans Cheering Early in the National

In this week’s Throwback we dial back the clock to August of 1986 and arrive at Hollister Hills in California, the site of a combined 125cc/500cc AMA Motocross Nationals that season. The photo shows the start of the first 125cc National moto and local hero Ricky Ryan (20) gave fans a lot to cheer about as he powered his Kawasaki into the early lead. Also getting great starts were Bobby Moore (49), Jeff Leisk (203), Stacy Cook (94), Eddie Warren (23), Jeff Frisz (41), Micky Dymond (43) and Eddie Hicks (57). Ryan led for a few laps, but then it was Warren making his move to the front and Warren would go on to top both motos to win his second AMA MX National. Dymond (4-3) and Leisk (3-4) rounded out the podium finishers that day.
