Vance & Hines Suzuki Rider Won the Pro Stock Event in Front of 40,000 Fans

In this week’s Throwback Thursday, we dial back the clock 38 years to March of 1987 and that season’s Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Florida. Vance & Hines Suzuki rider Terry Vance, in the near lane, fires off the line alongside Kawasaki-mounted Earl Timmons during an early round of Pro Stock action at the NHRA opener. Vance would go on to win the Pro Stock event that weekend in a thriller final over George Bryce. Vance shifted into second too early and Bryce took the lead, but Vance used the horsepower of his Byron Hines-built Suzuki to barely slip past Bryce at the line. Vance had an elapsed time of 8.25 seconds at 161.23 mph to Bryce’s 8.29/158.50 mph.
