This is it! The final round of the 2025 AMA Pro Motocross Championship takes place today at Budds Creek Motocross in Mechanicsville, Maryland. Jett Lawrence secured the 450MX title one week ago but the 250MX crown is still up for grabs – Haiden Deegan needs to finish 15th or better in the first moto to clinch. Lets get into the action!

450 MOTO 1
Jett Lawrence dominated the opening moto of the day. With a smooth track, and the 450’s racing first, the new number one grabbed the holeshot over Justin Cooper and quickly put himself out front. Lawrence checked out from the rest of the field and easily claimed yet another moto win, the 44th of his career.

Justin Cooper held on for a hard fought second place in moto one. The number-32 battled with Jett on the opening lap but eventually settled into second in the early stages of the race. He faced pressure from RJ Hampshire and later Hunter Lawrence but “J-Coop” held strong for the entire race. He crossed the line second and kept Lawrence at bay.

Hunter Lawrence battled his way to third. He started outside the top five but pushed into podium contention as the laps wore on. Lawrence passed Hampshire for third and set his sights on Cooper in second. The two duked it out with numerous lappers on the final laps but Lawrence was never able to move forward. He took third at the line.

RJ Hampshire and Eli Tomac rounded out the top five after an exciting first moto.

450 MOTO 2
Hunter Lawrence dominated the second 450 moto. The Honda HRC Progressive rider grabbed the holeshot and quickly sprinted away from the rest of the field. Lawrence led every lap en route to the win in the final race of the 2025 season. 3-1 results put him second on the day, one spot behind Jett.

Jett Lawrence cruised to second in the second moto. He started right behind his older brother Hunter but slowly lost the tow as the laps wore on. With the title already under wraps, Jett kept things in control to earn another overall victory with 1-2 finishes.

“It feels good to end with a win,” Jett said. “I’m super happy. Hunter [Lawrence] rode really well in moto two. I’m really happy with the season. I’d love to be a three-time champion, but injuries are a part of the sport. Nevertheless, it’s another 1-2 finish for Honda, which is awesome.”

“What a good way to end the season,” said Hunter Lawrence. “I’m happy with that. It took a true team effort this weekend to make all this happen, so I’m grateful to have such an amazing group of people around me.”

RJ Hampshire battled his way to third at the line. After running up front for most of the first moto, Hampshire ended the day (and his season) on a high note with another podium finish. He narrowly missed an overall podium result due to Justin Cooper’s 2-4 scores.

“I feel like I rode the best I have all season at Budds Creek across both the motos,” said Hampshire. “I got a good start in moto one, but just couldn’t make a pass on the rider in front of me for the whole 30 minutes, which was frustrating. Then in race two, I made a good push there at the end after another strong start, and both my bike and body are getting a lot more comfortable toward the end of these motos now. Overall, I’m happy with the day and my whole rookie 450MX season in general – that’s the best outdoors series I have had by far.”

Cooper again ran inside podium territory for most of the second moto but a small fall allowed RJ Hampshire to sneak by late in the race. 2-4 finishes still put Cooper third on the box and fourth in the series standings. He still leads the overall SMX points heading into the Playoffs.

“I felt really good today,” Cooper said. “ I had a great battle with the boys [Lawrences] and it felt awesome to be in the lead group. I made a mistake in moto two and went down and kind of lost my flow after that.”

Justin Barcia tied his season-best result by rounding out the top five. “First moto, I struggled a little bit in finding a flow,” Barcia said. “I ended up eighth, which I wasn’t too thrilled about. The second race, I got off to a good start and felt comfortable straight away, so that was a cool feeling to be up front and running the pace, knowing I still have what it takes. A top-five finish is a solid way to end the season, and now we’ll come out swinging for SMX.”

Malcolm Stewart led Dylan Ferrandis, Eli Tomac, Valentin Guillod, and Jorge Prado to complete the top 10 running order.

250 MOTO 1
Tom Vialle grabbed the holeshot in the first 250 moto but a red flag was thrown shortly after. After they re-racked the gates, Vialle snagged another good start and ended up front once again. Vialle ran up front but later tucked the front end and fell from the lead, handing the position over to the rookie Cole Davies.

Davies took over the lead on lap two and led for the next five laps. This was a far cry from Davies’ debut ride last weekend when he finished 23rd in both races. Deegan and Shimoda eventually made their way around the rookie but Davies was eventually credited with the win – more on that later.
Deegan passed for the lead on lap seven and took off with the moto win. Even with pressure from Shimoda in second, Deegan held on for the race win and earned enough points to seal the championship.
After the race both Deegan and Shimoda were docked one position each along with five championship points for jumping on a red cross flag. This dropped both riders down to second and third and gave Davies the moto win.
250 MOTO 2
Nate Thrasher started up front in the second 250 moto with Deegan hot on his heels. Deegan passed his teammate on lap three but the race was once again red flagged due to a crash involving Julien Beaumer.

They restarted the running order but Deegan never relinquished the lead. He led the remaining laps and ended the day on top with 2-1 finishes. This earned him the overall win in his final outdoor race aboard a 250.

Jo Shimoda looked good for second in the second moto. He started behind Deegan and kept the number-one in his sights but never got close enough to make a move. Shimoda’s 3-2 results put him second on the day and secured him second in the overall championship.
Levi Kitchen put in a great ride for third overall. The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider battled his way to fourth in moto one and backed it up with a third in moto two. Kitchen needed a day like this to end the season with a podium result.

The newly crowned champion is looking to end the season with a bang and set the time to beat – seven tenths quicker than second place Justin Cooper. Shockingly, Jorge Prado is heading to the LCQ after qualifying 43rd overall! 450’s race first today so be sure to keep your eyes on the front runners.
