The final two rounds of the GT Arena Motocross Championship took place in Springfield, Missouri, on February 2-3. Points leader Michael Hicks again swept the doubleheader weekend with 1-1 victories. He also claimed his fifth straight GT Arenacross Championship.
Hicks again made it look easy during rounds 17 and 18. He swept the first night of racing with the fastest qualifying time, a heat race win, and two wins during the night’s main events. The Yamaha rider led every lap of main one and extended his lead to more than four seconds over second place, Mike Alessi.
Main two looked like more of the same, Hicks leading all 14 laps even with pressure from Chase Marquier at the end. Marquier took second overall with 3-2 finishes over Alessi’s 2-4 for third.
Night two was a carbon copy in terms of results. Hicks got out front early in both races and set the fastest times of the night by tripling into the big rhythm lane. He used this speed to run away with consecutive victories and a fifth-straight title.
Marquier again claimed second via 3-2 finishes, and Alessi crossed third with 2-4 scores. Marquier held on for second in the overall championship ahead of Ben Nelko. CN
