FMF KTM’s Trystan Hart came out on top of the 2023 Reno EnduroCross results with 2-3-1 moto scores. The win also earned the Canadian his first AMA EnduroCross championship over defending champion Jonny Walker.
Rockstar Husqvarna’s Colton Haaker maintained his momentum from his round five win to take the win in the first of the three motos to keep his championship hopes alive. Hart finished second ahead of championship rival Walker on his Beta. The top three in the championship coming into the event were in reverse order in that first moto. Husqvarna’s Ryder LeBlond and Sherco’s Cooper Abbott rounded out the top five.
With the top eight riders starting on the second row for the second moto, there is often a lot of action as the top riders work their way to the front. Haaker was again on the move and made a last lap pass for the lead to take his second moto win in a row. Sherco’s Cody Webb finished second in the moto and Hart finished third. RPM KTM’s Angus Riordan finished a strong fourth in his second EnduroCross of the season after wrapping up his GNCC XC-2 race season. Abbott rounded out the top five. Walker, the championship leader finished seventh, which opened the door for Hart and Haaker in the championship.
The overall race win and championship were on the line in the final moto and Hart put himself in the lead early and held off the field to take the moto win with the top four separated by just four seconds. Abbott put in his best ride of the season to finish second in the moto ahead of his Sherco teammate Webb. Walker finished fourth in the final moto and LeBlond rounded out the top five. Haaker, the winner of the first two motos finished sixth.
Hart topped the night overall results with 2-3-1 moto scores. Haaker was second overall with 1-1-6 finishes and Abbott rounded out the podium with 5-5-2 results. Webb finished fourth with 8-2-3 moto scores and Walker rounded out the top five with 3-7-4 finishes.
Hart earned the 2023 AMA EnduroCross championship with 147 points. Walker finished second with 140 points and Haaker rounded out the podium with 137 points.
Trystan Hart: “Wow, what a season! I got two fifth places to start it off and, at that point, the championship was really out of the question because Jonny (Walker) won the first six motos. After that, I don’t think anyone had money on me, and we found something. I skipped going to an Extreme race, and it really made a big difference – the suspension and just a little more rest. The second half of the season, I rode really good and went 1-1-2-1 in the final four races, so what a crazy season and, honestly, what a crazy journey it’s been to get here. I’ve been through so much, this series has been so tough on me after we went from the 15-minute motos to these sprint races… This one is special, it wasn’t easy, and thank you very much to everybody behind me on the way to this championship!”
Rachael Gutish took her fifth win in six races on her GasGas to clinch her first Women’s pro AMA EnduroCross championship. She missed the fifth round of the championship while competing at the ISDE, where she helped the American team take the Women’s Team championship. Melisssa Harten finished second in the race and second in the championship. Hallie Marks finished third in the Reno finale and third in the championship.
