Puigcerda, Spain (October 10, 2023) — We’re thrilled to share a momentous announcement. For the very first time, Team USA will be proudly represented at the 2023 Enduro Vintage Trophy in Spain. A huge congratulations to Team USA’s members Fred Hoess, Lendon Smith and Mike Sheetz on this historic accomplishment. The riders have been pouring their hearts and souls into their training, fueled by an unwavering passion for vintage enduro racing. Now, they are gearing up to take on this incredible challenge, with the aim of not just showcasing their skills but also embodying the true essence of American motorsport on the global platform. Team USA’s lead, Fred Hoess, boasts 46 years of racing experience and is a two-time overall winner of the Vintage Trophy and 28-time ISDE vet. He also holds the world record for most Gold Medals won by an individual with an astounding 20 gold medals.
Mike, the second rider, is a vintage Enduro bike enthusiast and Marine Corps veteran who has passionately worked towards attending the Vintage Trophy since 2016. He has a collection of vintage Enduro bikes and loves to ride and race them, so he is very honored to be taking part in this historic event surrounded by people from all over the world who all share the same passion.
The third rider, Lendon, has an impressive track record with victories in the Florida Trail Riders Open Class HS Championship, a Baja 1000 Championship in the 40 Pro class as well as 1st 40 Pro in the 2015 Baja 1000 Championship. His last race result was a 1st place finish in class 50A and 9th overall at the 2023 Florence Grand Prix.
This moment marks a historic milestone for Team USA as they embark on their journey to the 2023 Enduro Vintage Trophy in Spain.
