Bob Deiss, Denny Varnes and Phil McDonald Celebrate Their Finishes in the 100-Mile Junior Road Race
In this week’s Throwback we travel back to Bike Week 1973 and Daytona International Speedway’s Winner’s Circle. This photo shows the top three finishers in the 100-Mile Junior Road Race that year. Winning the race was Phil McDonald (on the right) with runner up Denny Varnes in the middle and third-place finisher Bob Deiss on the left. Phil and Denny were on Yamaha’s Bob on a Harley-Davidson. Denny seems to be the only one aware of the photographers snapping away. Bob’s checking out something on his Harley, while Phil is chatting up Miss Motorcycle Classics ’73.
