Throwback Thursday: Jeff Glass Leads the Way at Red Bud AMA 125 National (1988)

Glass became a hero to privateers everywhere when he secured Surf Laundry Detergent sponsorship
In this week’s Throwback we travel back 35 years to 1988 at that year’s Red Bud AMA Motocross National. In the opening 125cc moto it was Duncansville, Pennsylvania’s Jeff Glass (No. 70) scoring the holeshot on his Surf Laundry Detergent Honda CR125. Glass just barely beat Donny Schmit to the first turn. Schmit is hidden behind Glass in this photo. Also nailing a good start in the moto were Erik Kehoe (No. 9), George Holland (No. 3), Guy Cooper (No. 5) and Carlo Coen (No. 62). Glass was one of the few privateers who was able to bring on national-level sponsorship as he did with Surf Detergent. He was also apparently talented at starts as this past Throwback shows. Guy Cooper went on to win the national that day.
