The Golden State National was the first time the Carnegie hill has been used in two and a half year years due to the pandemic, and thousands came out to watch the action unfold. Athletes drove from around the country to race up the 500-foot hill, which was set up with a few different courses through the grass for the various pro classes. The lineup was stacked, and it was Logan Cipala of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, a two-time MSS Champion, who walked away with a close overall win.
Cipala won the 450cc main on a GasGas MC 450F in an exciting final race against Petey Krunich and finished fifth in the 450 main.
2018 MSS Champion Logan Mead won the Open class on his KTM 1290 by nearly 1.5 seconds against the next fastest rider in that class, Shane Speed.
Austin Teyler finished fourth in the 450cc main and had a wild third-place ride in the Open class, which earned him a third overall on the day.
Cipala’s dominance in the 450cc main is carrying into 2022, but the top three in the MSS Championship points are sitting very close and should make for an exciting race at round two, which will be the South Hills Showdown in Billings, Montana, April 30. It will share a venue and weekend with the Bentonite Brawl Hard Enduro, May 1, round two of the AMA U.S. Hard Enduro Series.CN
