Factory Kawasaki Rider On His Way to Heat Race Victory
In this week’s Throwback we dial the wayback machine to April of 1983 and the Dallas Supercross at the Cotton Bowl. This photo captures Team Kawasaki’s Jeff Ward (No. 9) leading a Heat race that he led from start to finish. Among those visible in the shot are Scott Burnworth (No. 16), Tom Carson (No. 57), Kent Howerton (No. 26), Rodney Smith (No. 69) and Dave Hollis (No. 45). Yamaha’s Mike Bell won the main event that night over Bob Hannah and Ron Lechien. Wardy got a bad start in the final, but worked his way up to fourth by the checkered flag. The Dallas Supercross, which takes place later this month, is now held in AT&T Stadium in nearby Arlington.
