2021 The Sarge OMA Cross-Country Results

When the OMA Nationals rolled into the Kirkpatrick land north of Memphis, Missouri, September 26, for their second race event this year it was a much better weather situation than their previous visit, and it was Tommy Fortune Jr. who made the best of it.

Tommy Fortune led from start to finish at The Sarge OMA Cross-Country in Memphis, Missouri.

Fortune Jr., aka “Buddy,” shot to the lead on his mom-and-dad-backed G2 Yamaha YZ250, taking the holeshot, and he never looked back. After nine laps of the trail described by many racers as “super fun,” Fortune had amassed a five-and-a-half-minute lead over second-place rider Colt Converse and his Team Mercer County D&W Cycles Yamaha YZ125.

Jayson Crawford rounded out the all-Yamaha podium at two hours and 12 minutes.

Skyler Harkless (Husqvarna) topped the A class with a fourth-place overall finish, and Pro-Am racer Chris Huffman Kawasaki placed fourth in class and fifth overall.

“I tried to get a good start, as always,” Fortune said of his race. “I got the holeshot. I knew it was going to be a little dusty, so I wanted to get a good start and get out of there.

Second place Pro-Am rider Converse, said, “I started off with a pretty decent start. I think I was about fourth going into the woods. I made a couple quick passes and pretty much from there on I rode by myself in second all day. I couldn’t quite see Buddy and I kept a pretty good gap over Jayson and rode by myself to second place.

Colt Converse had his Yamaha YZ125 pinned en route to second overall.

“I was on the 125, so I really had no bottom end all day,” Converse said, “but that track is super-fast, and it really didn’t mess with me too bad, but it was noticeable.”
