Throwback Thursday: Team Kawasaki 1980
In this week’s Throwback we go back 39 years to see Team Kawasaki’s Motocross squad for 1980. It’s always fun to go back and look at old press kits and it’s amazing in retrospect, to see exactly how loaded with talent Team Kawasaki was in those days. Consider that four of the members of the Kawasaki’s motocross squad 39 years ago are now in the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, including Brad Lackey, Gary Mathers, Jeff Ward and Jimmy Weinert.
Weinert and Mosier were racing their final full seasons as pros, while upstarts Blose, Ward, Wosick were all in either their second or third years as pros. Reid was squarely in the middle of his career and Lackey was battling in the 500cc Motocross World Championships overseas. Mathers would go on to even further success as team manager for Honda later in his career.
