Kailub Russell Tops Gull Gas Sprint Enduro Round Four
This is a press release from KTM…
Glen Daniel, WV – FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Kailub Russell extended his points lead in the 2019 Full Gas Sprint Enduro Series over the weekend with an overall victory from Round 4 at the Hidden Valley Golf Course in Glen Daniel, West Virginia. His teammate, Josh Toth, gave him a run for his money on day one, ultimately finishing fourth overall for the weekend.
The KTM duo battled back and forth through the first day of racing on Saturday, with Russell coming away with only a .21 of a second lead over Toth heading into day two. While he didn’t click off a test-win on Saturday, it was Russell’s consistency that earned him the top spot after day one. He used that momentum to head into Sunday, where he claimed the first two cross-test wins and four additional second-place finishes to grab second on the day and first overall for the weekend.
Russell: “I had a good weekend. I didn’t have the test results that I’d hoped for but still managed to win day one and the overall. I had a tough time putting together the technical and slippery enduro test where I was winless on both days, but I was good enough in the cross test to make it hurt a little less.”
Coming off a big win at the previous round, Toth was determined to keep the momentum rolling into the weekend. On Saturday, he fought Russell down to the nail for the day’s victory and he brought home two test-wins along the way. On Sunday, Toth didn’t have the ride he was looking for as he finished fourth on the day with a mixture of top-five finishes across all the tests. With both days combined, Toth came away with fourth overall for the weekend.
Toth: “I rode pretty well this weekend but I’m not thrilled about the overall result. I almost had the day one win but it was slick and I crashed in the last test and twisted up the bike pretty bad. On day two, I thought I rode pretty well but the other guys just stepped it up. I had one little crash again today in the cross test but never made any major mistakes. I’m looking forward to making some improvements before the next round!”
