Press Release | August 11, 2018
Alpinestars Helmet Development Department was created to research and develop the most protective, most comfortable and lightest possible motocross helmet.
Alpinestars states: The goal was to allow riders to push the limits of performance, benefiting from confidence inspiring safety technology, reduced weight distribution to reduce muscular effort in the neck, shoulders and back and improved physiological and cognitive performance with a supremely well-fitting and well-ventilated construction, optimizing comfort while riding.
The new Supertech M10 MX helmet has a smooth, streamlined shell to reduce friction on impact, allowing deflection and the efficient transfer of energy to protect the rider’s head from direct force to the skull and reduce referred forces to the neck and spinal column. The aperture is designed to accommodate a wide variety of googles, and the air vents in the shell are located to maximize ventilation efficiency.
MIPS is incorporated into the Supertech M-10 to reduce rotational motion energies that can cause damaging gyration force to be transmitted to the brain. With a micro-adjustable pad that is connected to the helmet’s inner shell, it is possible to raise or lower the helmet fit and also to tilt the helmet forward or backwards. The base of the M-10 has been sculpted to clear the collarbone. Also incorporated into the area of the base pad is an energy-absorption pad that allows deflection when it contacts the collarbone.
Its liner is formed to optimize airflow channeling around the rider’s head before being extracted from the M10 through rear exhaust vents to ensure positive pressure is maintained with constant airflow while riding. The Supertech M10 helmet lining design includes canals which allow a tube to be incorporated on either side of the shell to connect a hydration system.
The Supertech M-10 also has an Emergency Release System, and it can accommodate a helmet “Eject” inflation system inside crown of the shell. Another feature is the M10 comes in four shell sizes for a better fit. The M10 weighs 1260 grams for the size medium ECE helmet, and 1370 grams for the size medium DOT.
Supertech M10 Shell Construction
- 3K, high-density carbon outer layer that improves strength and efficiency of energy dissipation over the shell.
- Unidirectional carbon composite layer that gives significantly greater radial strength around the shell, preventing compression but allowing controlled deflection for reducing transmitted impact energy.
- Aramid fiber layer that provides critical penetration protection.
