The 2017 KTM Adventure Rider Rally was held in Crested Butte, Colorado for the second time in three years. With nearly 500 attendees including a massive staff of KTM event planners, celebrity riders, world-class racers and helpful technicians, it was a popular destination to say the least. On top of that, nearly 30 vendors from the Adventure Motorcycling industry showcased their latest adventure motorcycle gear and services.
We had a quick chat with MotoDiscovery’s Skip Mascorro (founder) and Roberto Livingston (the man in charge in Argentina) inside their booth at the KTM Adventure Rider Rally to see why they made the trip, what kind of cool new stuff they have and what they think the KTM Adventure Rider Rally is all about.
What product is drawing the most interest from the attendees at the KTM Rally?
Skip Mascorro: We started doing motorcycle adventure tours in 1981 in Mexico. From there we went to Central America and South America. We now go to Europe, we have a special license to go to Cuba, we’ve been to Iran—probably the only company that has taken Americans on a motorcycle trip in Iran—India, Turkey, all round the Black Sean, parts of Asia… we pretty much go everywhere!
This is our first KTM rally and we’re pretty impressed. We’ve found that the KTM group seems to be very enthusiastic with off-road riding and we’re surprised to find how few of them have ever heard of us. And that’s good for us approaching a new and fresh market for us. We’ve been involved with and popular with the BMW crowd for quite some time. This is a great new group for us to talk to.
We go to so many places around the world and what is special with us is we can cater to special groups or custom ideas and we can set up anything anywhere around the world. We’ve been around so long that we’re really a logistics specialist in the trenches in so many parts of the world. We’ve made most of the mistakes already. So if someone wants to go to South America and they don’t have the time to make all the arrangements, we can hone them in.
A lot of people use us for logisitics only if they want to ship motorcycles or cross a border and have questions about technical or legal aspects of that—we’re there and we have very good contacts all over the world.
Why should riders consider attending the KTM Adventure Rider Rally?
Skip Mascorro: First of all, you’ll be in a real culture of riders. And what we’re seeing is that this is a really friendly group of people. If you go to other rallies you can see a lot of different tribes. This is a very unified tribe here.CN
