JD Beach gets one over the champion
Monster Energy/Yamalube/YES/Graves rider JD Beach took a commanding victory in race one of round one of the 2017 MotoAmerica Supersport Championship at Circuit of The Americas today.
The former series champion was in peerless form as he streaked to a commanding 4.9 second win over the battling Valentin Debise (M4 ECSTAR Suzuki) and Monster Energy/Yamalube/YES/Graves teammate, and current champion Garrett Gerloff.
Debise was lucky to get onto the podium after crashing early in the race, which normally would have spelt the end of his charge. However, a separate crash from M4 ECSTAR Suzuki teammate Brandon Cleland and subsequent fluid leakage from his GSX-R600 caused the race to be red flagged with the results taken back one lap, meaning Debise was in second at that point and free to join the restart.
He made sure of it as well, putting a perfectly executed block pass on Gerloff at the final corner to demote the champion to third place.
Fourth and first Honda home was Benny Solis Jnr (Team H35), some 15 seconds in arrears, with Daytona Anderson (Rickdiculous Racing Yamaha) in fifth.
