A fight between Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) and Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) went to Rea, who passed his teammate on lap 10. Despite beating Sykes, Rea is still two tantalizing points away from securing his second championship in as many years.
It could have been very different.
Nicky Hayden (Honda World Superbike Team) joined the top three fight late in the race and looked like he would be able to pass Sykes at least. Had he been able to, he would have ensured Rea would have been champion, but he finished in Sykes’ slipstream.
Sylvain Guintoli (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) was four second back in fifth place with the fast-finishing Michael van der Mark (Honda World Superbike Team) securing a strong sixth.
Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) was an assured and safe seventh, nearly three seconds up on Jordi Torres (Althea BMW Racing Team). Ninth place was a more than respectable finish for privateer Kawasaki rider Anthony West (Pedercini Racing Kawasaki), especially in dry conditions. The top ten was rounded out by Lorenzo Savadori (IodaRacing Team Aprilia). Josh Brookes (Milwaukee BMW) was 12th. Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) failed to finish
In the points, Rea has 462, Sykes is 48 behind and Davies 67 adrift of the lead, but closer to Sykes.
