ELMA, WA, JULY 19 – Washington weather threw a wrench in tonight’s scheduled AMA Pro Flat Track race at Grays Harbor Raceway, making it a Sunday afternoon race instead of under the lights. After efforts to hard pack the wet track, the mist and light drizzle made for less than ideal track conditions.
Based on the weather forecast and local knowledge, this was as good it was going to get tonight. To give it a go, Jared Mees, Kenny Coolbeth, Brandon Robinson, Stevie Bonsey and Washington native Sammy Halbert went out in a short practice session to test the conditions of the track and the consensus was that it was not suitable to race.
“The track was actually pretty consistent… The first time I went out it wasn’t bad at all and then the second time it was a little slicker, but it was consistent,” Halbert said. The problem is that it’s still misting and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to stop misting is the reason why we can’t race tonight. The track was fun though and I’m looking forward to racing tomorrow.”
The race is rescheduled for tomorrow with bikes going on track at 10:15 am and opening ceremonies kicking off at 1:00 pm. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy conditions.
The promoter will be honoring tickets purchased for today’s event tomorrow.
