The folks from Red Bull announced a new event to hit Pomona, California at the Auto Club Raceway at Fairplex on October 4 – Red Bull Straight Rhythm. Basically it’s an unwound supercross track with no turns stretching a half-mile. The new race will pit a field of 32 riders against each other in a head-to-head best-of-three bracket format.
To see if it would work, the event concept was tested last year by some of the top riders in the sport – James Stewart, Ryan Dungey, Marvin Musquin, Malcolm Stewart, Cole Seely, Justin Bogle and Jessy Nelson.
“It’s all about rhythm,” said James Stewart in the event release. “So if you mess up once, you’ve got a half-mile to get it back, but you almost have to be perfect.” One mistake and it’s a wrap.”
The event will air on NBC as a part of Red Bull’s Signature Series and tickets will be available for purchase starting in July at www.redbull.com/straightrhythm. The event promises some of the world’s best Supercross/Motocross riders with a full rider list to be released at a later date.
