Justin Sode emerged as the big winner at the second round of the AMA Hare Scrambles East Series in Elko, Georgia, February 24. Sode, riding a two-stroke Beta, kept his bike near the front the whole way, eventually taking the checkered flag leading the way.

Rain and mud played havoc on the race. The area got pounded by rain before the race, making nearly impossible to get around the 21-mile course, so race officials shortened the course to just eight miles and nine laps. Only four riders would complete all nine laps.

KTM rider Sam Evans was one of those four riders. He took over the second-place position on the last lap and held it there to the end.

Husqvarna rider Sam Evans completed the podium in third.

Defending champ Jedediah Haines was in contention for the win until a rock sheared off his bike’s chain guide. A lengthy pits stop fixed the problem but the damage was done. He would go on to finish 20th.

Takeshi Kolkeda competed but would not finish. His tire came off the rim of his Honda 450 while battling up front on the seventh lap.

On the other side of the country, the third round of the AMA Hare Scrambles Championship West Series was taking place in Globe, Arizona, where Yamaha rider Gary Sutherlin raced to victory for the second time this year.

KTM rider Alex Dorsey finished second, while KTM-mounted David Broderick took third.
