First ever Seattle Supercross

With the Seattle Supercross heading to CenturyLink Field on Saturday night for the 41st running of a Seattle Supercross, we decided to take a look back at the very first Supercross held at the Seattle Kingdome in 1978.

Called the Yamaha Gold Cup Supercross, the race was won by Jimmy Ellis on a factory Honda – Ellis’ first and only Supercross victory with Honda. The race, which was round one of the Toyota Supercross Series and held on February 18, had Ellis winning over his new Honda teammate Marty Tripes and Yamaha’s Bob Hannah. Suzuki’s Kent Howerton and Kawasaki’s Gaylon Mosier rounded out the top five.
